Red sunset wth moon and a tree in silouette A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
By William Shakespeare

Directed by Leon Winston

Private Garden, Dartington Hall
Great Hall, if wet

Friday 16th to Saturday 24th June, except Sunday 18th, nightly at 7.45pm

No Shakespeare comedy offers such a feast of magic, humour, music and
spectacle as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Playgoers’ choice this year as it
celebrates its 60th Anniversary. It is the perfect play for the beautiful Private Garden.

The heart of the play is set in nocturnal woods of mystery and mischief, where
anything can happen -and it does. Into the enchanted wood arrive four
head-strong lovers and a group of well meaning artisans looking for space to
rehearse their play. But this is the fairy world of Oberon, Titania and Puck
where nothing is what it seems. All who enter the woods find themselves
changed by magical events of frenzy and confusion

This production, with especially composed music, marks a return to the very first
Shakespeare play performed in the open-air by Playgoers in 1974.
It promises, once again, to delight, enchant and entertain you.
